Hi,
Im trying to connect to my SQL server instance (2005 standard) from another computer using Management Studio. Here is what I have done so far.
1. Installed SQL server x86 with a named instance on Server 2008 R2 x64 (all features)
2. Installed just the client components on a Windows 7 workstation.
3. Enabled tcp ip in Server 2008 and remote connections
4. Applied SQL SP3 on Server and 7
5. Disabled windows firewall on windows 7 (for all profiles)
When I run the SQL configuration manager from Windows 7, there are no services that are running.
I can find the Server with the SQL instance installed. It shows under the Network Servers Tab under Database Engines as SERVERNAME
This is displayed as SERVERNAME\INSTANCENAME when I use the Management Studio on Server 2008 under the Network Servers Tab. I am able to connect to it from Server 2008 but not windows 7.
