I'm trying to determine if I've got a Network I/O bottleneck copying data from one 2008 R2 SQL server to another over our 1GB LAN. Performing a simple select query in SSMS on one server from the database on another server I'm getting Network Utilization around 13% and Bytes Received Per Interval around 15,000,000 as reported by Task Manager. Copying a large file across the network I'm getting Network Utilization upwards of 90% and Bytes in excess of 105,000,000.
It seems like SQL "should" be faster or are my performance numbers typical? Any input would be appreciated!
