specifying same value for both min and max server memory in SQL server

Hi,

Running with SQL2008R2Ent 64 bit SP2 on Win 2008R2 enterprise , we have had the max and min server memory of the SQL properties changed to utilize 50GB of RAM, this came from an application consultant.

We now face some memory constraint on the server and occasional application consultants, we already can see that the only user database alone utilises some 47 GB RAM as well as individual object utilization and index memory allocation from sys performance counters have already been fetched and we are plotting further to see what can be done.

We  do have an similar instance setup where the max server memory alone was specified to 50GB and the MIN server wasjust left to zero as it was.

We have not faced specific memory based issues on this instance.

Going through msdn we can see the below excerpt.

If the same value is specified for both min server memory and max server memory, then once the memory allocated to the Database Engine reaches that value, the Database Engine stops dynamically freeing and acquiring memory for the buffer pool

Based on the above statement can i take that am running now into an issue as i had specified both max and min memory. What is the real time effect ofthis "Engine stops dynamically freeing and acquiring memory for the buffer pool".

BR

Eben
