Issue for listening Sql Server on non default port? Not able to connect from client.

Hi All,

I have setup a lab environment for SharePoint 2013 farm. There is a windows server 2012 domain controller, a separate database server and a application server.

I have installed only named instance of Sql Server 2012 on database server. Using SQL server configuration manager, I modified the port for a named instance to static port i.e 40000.

I have installed SQL client connectivity tools and Management Studio on Application Server. Using SQL Server Configuration manager, I have created Alias on application server, But I am not able to connect to the server with the Alias name. I am getting network or instance specific error.

When I connect it like tcp:server\instance,40000, I am getting untrusted domain error; can not use windows authentication. When I use Sql Authentication with same, I am able to connect.

Please guide me on the same issue. Appreciate your help.

Thanks,

Rahul Babar
