Firing trigger with partioning function

Hi,

We are looking at implementing a partioning scheme on a parent-child relationship but the column we want to use is only in the parent table. Is it possible to get a trigger to fire when the partioning happens on the parent table? If it is then we could code the trigger to move the child data to the same filegroup as the parent data it relates to.

Example:

Parent has year/month column we want to use in the partition function. Parent also has an indentity column defined as the clustered index key that is in the child table. The year/month column does not exist in the child table.
