We are having SQL 2008 R2, four node cluster (total 5 instances running on them) and now we are planning to set statis port for one of the named instance out of the 5 instances runing on the cluster.
I set the static port for the named instance also cross checked the registry entry on all the nodes its showing correct new updated static port.
Registry entry location:-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\<Instance Name> \MSSQLServer\SuperSocketNetLib\Tcp
Now after the sql server instance restart/failover/failback, when I tried to connect the instance using the static port it is working fine, I am able to connect the named instance but when I tried to connect the same named instance without specifying the port then too it is connecting.
SQL server browser service is running on the cluster.
I cannot stop it since other instance are running and using dynamic ports.
