Standard and workgroup edition problem

Hi Experts,

We need to install MSSQL SERVER 2008 and set up the replication. In that we have provided with a sql server standard edition and one as a work-group edition. Can any one tell which one to make subscriber and which one to publisher? and can i install standard edition as in active mode and workgroup edition as in passive mode? if i install like this also will replication work??

and one more doubt

can i install  standard edition on default instance on one server and standard edition of named instance on another server with same license key?
