264 An attempt was made to send an email when no email session has been established

Platform is SQL Server 2005 SP3 on a Windows 2003 Enterprise Server. So far the following has been accomplished...

Enabled Database Mail, created a profile, configured profile to use mail account with SMTP authentication, sent test msg (received successfully), created an operator and email notifications for both a successful and failed job. The SQL Server Agent service was then restarted and has been changed to logon with the domain account associated with database mail instead of Local System. (Local System fails to send mail as well)

However, I always receive the msg in the title which is normally preceeded by a 260 unable to start mail session (reason:no mail profile defined) even though it obviously is.
